PICTURE GALLERY: 1998
6 photos.
This is grandma Horsten with her great-grandchild, Laura.
Laura was born in September 1998 to my cousin Anders, and Charlotte.
I haven't met her yet, but have seen plenty of photos (as well as a couple of webcam videos of the toddler).
Hmm...

Here is a close-up of the child, Laura.
They all look wrinkly and pink at this stage, but her grandmother (my aunt Vibeke) assures me she is perfect.
I'll take her word for it - she wouldn't be biased, would she ?

And here are the parents (the young couple in the middle: Anders and Charlotte).
This is during a lunchbreak at my grandmother's home.
The two flanking people are my uncle Wit (looking very pleased with himself -
but then again, he's a stout fellow), and my aunt Mari-Ann.

My best friends wedding.
Seriously!
Renée and David married on 17th October 1998.
That crowd around them is their family - unfortunately, this scan came out blurred, so I can't point them out.
The ceremony took place at a beautiful farm-stead, on a boiling hot spring day.
Sweet...

And here are those of us who chose to put off the dreaded moment just a little bit further.
All are UCT students: Raymond, Lindley, Liesl, Doug, my boyfriend Shukri and myself -
we all completed our Bachelor's degree together (and don't ask about those sunglasses, please!).
Can you sense the relief?
Another one bites the dust...

The newly-weds, in a rare close-up.
It was *really* hot that day, take my word for it!
Btw, Renée is now (almost a year later) a member of the South African dragon-boat racing team,
and is going to represent her country at the championships in the UK.
Dragon-boat racing is kind of like rowing, but the boat is bigger, prettier and there are more people involved.
Way to go, Renée!
