Muizenberg, South Africa This is Shukri (my boyfriend), posing with a boogie-board.   Not his, but borrowed from my friend Ismael, who borrowed it from a friend...   It's March in Cape Town, and this is the end of a day of scuba diving.   Don't let the sunshine fool you - that water is close to 10 degrees celsius... brr! Charlottenlund, Denmark Charlottenlund Castle, my workplace.   Seriously - the Danish Department for Sea Fisheries has its offices in this magnificent-looking place.   Lucky me, eh?   The Castle is surrounded by a beautiful park, and very close to Dyrehavsbakken, the oldest fairground in Denmark.
Øresundsbron, Denmark/Sweden The new bridge, built between Copenhagen and Malmö.   This is Shukri and my aunt, Vibs - the occasion is a special people's holiday, to promote the bridge and give pedestrians/cyclists a once-off chance to enjoy the trip, before it becomes vehicles only on July 1st.   This was the cycling day, and we went all the way to Sweden and back: first a 4 km tunnel, then the 8 km bridge - and double that!   The background is Denmark. Øresundsbron, Denmark/Sweden The locally famous new bridge pillars (well, two of them).   They are very tall, and there's two pairs of them, about midway on the bridge, which elegantly curves to a side.   That's me in the blue shirt in the foreground.   The climb to the pillars is quite long and steep (for newbie cyclists like yours truly) so most people stopped at the top, to enjoy the view and catch their breath.   This is where the party was taken over by the Swedes... music and all!
Sorgenfri, Denmark This is a very special Danish tradition - my cousin's "translocation drive".   She has just graduated from high-school, when they receive the funky caps, and the rest of the day is spent driving in a beautifully decorated truck (traditionally, a horse-wagon), to visit all the students homes.   At each home they get a few drinks (and sometimes a snack).   Since there are often more than 20 students in a class, you can figure the state of the group after ten houses (and equally many beers).   By the end of the day, they're pretty sloshed! Sorgenfri, Denmark This is my cousin Nanna (left), her mother - my aunt - Vibs, and a friend.   Nanna's house was about fifth on the list of stops, so the group was still coherent then.   They stay about 15-30 minutes at each place, before zooming off to the next one.   It is customary for family members and friends to be at hand for the brief visit, to congratulate the new students.   During early June, each year, these drives can be heard all over the place, as the different classes celebrate this rite of passage... making sure they can be heard by all!
